Only a small number of colleges provide D.EL.ED via distance learning. The D.El.Ed. in Elementary Education is a degree program created especially for in-service, untrained teachers employed in lower or elementary schools. The Academic Department of NIOS has created DELED to be in line with NCF 2005, RTE 2009, and NCFTE 2010 on the initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. With its two-year Diploma in Elementary Education Program, NIOS is in charge of preparing aspiring elementary school teachers. For its academic and vocational programs both inside and beyond the nation, NIOS has a network of more than 15 Regional Centers, 2 Sub-Centers, and over 5,000 study centers.

The SCERT (ODL)

To address the chronic teacher shortage in the state, the Assam government developed SCERT. With schools only being open an average of 100 days a year, the scarcity was severe. Over three lakh teachers were hired as a result of the decentralization of teacher recruitment to Panchayati Raj organizations in order to address this problem. However, a sizable portion of these teachers lacked formal education. The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was initially tasked with educating these inexperienced educators, however the D.EL.ED program’s caliber fell short of expectations. Gauhati University has announced the commencement of the application process for Gauhati University PG Admission 2023.
